A small aluminum subchassis will replace the wood block to hold the 866A rectifiers and some low level control circuits. A relay will control application of the 240 VAC to the Variac to adjust the high voltage. My surplus relays had 24 VAC coils so more parts must be added to provide 3 sets of contacts and the control voltage. The 24 VAC may come in handy later when I look at the amp T/R relay and potentially replace it with a vacuum relay (also 24 V I think).

Click to enlarge The Variac, power, and control wiring are coming together. Good thing the local labor rates are very low! Still digging out needed parts from the junk box.
Click to enlarge June 3, 2006: Finally got all the components for the 866 power supply stuffed into the cabinet. All are wired and tested. The bleeder resistor is a single 100K ohm 100 watt unit but it still gets pretty hot so I kept lots of space around it. Thanks to Bob, G3XNG, for ideas on mounting the choke and wiring suggestions. And thanks to Gary, K4MQG, for some replacement plate caps which worked out very well. This arrangement will be OK while I move on to the RF deck and do some redesign there.
